Citations: Discipline-Specific Style Guides

Style Guides for Other Disciplines

Each discipline has its own style guide for writing, reporting and conducting research. English most often uses MLA (Modern Language Association), psychology uses APA (American Psychological Association), Chicago/Turabian style is generally used by Business, History, and the Fine Arts, and sociology uses ASA (American Sociological Association). However, there are countless others: Harvard, American Council of Science (ACS), Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Ask your instructor which style you should use.

Citation Generators

Although citation makers can format your in-text citations and references, with some even alphabetizing the entries for you, they are not perfect and will still require double-checking. Be sure to check with your instructor to see if you are permitted to use them.
