Mr. Pedro D. Orey currently serves as an Assistant Director of University Bands and Professor of Practice for Percussion at Bethune-Cookman University. During his tenure at Bethune-Cookman, he developed the percussion ensemble, marimba orchestra, percussion jazz/rock ensemble, the world-renowned B-CU Steel Orchestra, and founded the B-CU Percussion Camp. He has been an avid arranger and composer for the University’s Drumline and Steel Orchestra Ensemble. Mr. Orey is recognized as a central figure in the development of the contemporary marching percussion unit and steel band and has presented clinics/workshops on the steel drums and marching percussion techniques throughout the U.S. as well as served as a staff member of the U.S. Percussion Camp. He is also an educational endorser for Vic Firth drumsticks and mallets, Sabian Cymbals, Evans Drumheads and Pearl Drums. His ensembles have been featured and presented at various conferences and workshops including elementary and secondary schools, colleges and universities throughout the U.S.
Mr. Orey holds a Master in Music Performance from Eastern Illinois University and has pursued further study at Florida State University. He has a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Mississippi Valley State University.
