Dr. Vishwa D. Trivedi is an Associate Professor of Biochemistry at Bethune Cookman University [B-CU], Daytona Beach, FL, USA. He obtained his doctoral training in Protein Chemistry from Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology. As the Biochemistry program faculty at BCU, Vishwa Trivedi is involved with teaching chemistry/biochemistry courses along with active research focusing on microbial rhodopsin mediated protein-protein cross talk. Prior to joining BCU, Dr. Trivedi served as instructor at Center for Membrane Biology [in Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology] of University of Texas-Houston Medical School. He has served as research fellow at several premier research institutions and worked on protein structure-function projects involving NMR and x-ray crystallography of fusion domains of influenza, HIV-1 gp41 etc.
Dr. Trivedi has served as Editorial board member [International J of Physiology and Biochemistry, Protein and protein letters etc], reviewer and panelist to various high impact scientific journals [e.g. J. Biological Chemistry, J. Biomol Dynamics, Process Biochemistry etc] and federal programs [NSF GRFP, DoD Program etc] respectively. Recently he has completed multi-year NIH-supported project serving as Principal Investigator and guided numerous researchers in his group.
My current research interest is related to “Protein Stability, Ligand binding and Protein-Protein Cross-Talk” in order to outline the signaling state of Anabaena Sensory Receptor Transducer, ASRT, a cognate signaling molecule found in freshwater Anabaena PCC 7120 involved in unique signaling cascade via light stimulation.
My research group is involved with broad expertise ranging from molecular biology to protein biochemistry, with key emphasis on receptor activation and molecular basis of downstream signal relay using model integral photoreceptors, microbial rhodopsins. My research group proficiently utilizes wide spectrum of techniques ranging from gene cloning, site directed mutagenesis, overexpression, tagged and untagged protein purification, characterization, analysis, fluorescence based protein localization, phosphorylation assays, in vitro enzymatic assay, immunological approaches and basic cell biology tools. I have extensive experience in studying protein-protein, protein-lipid, protein-DNA and protein-ligand interaction using biochemical, analytical and classical biophysical applications. I have regularly provided support to fellow research staff with trouble shooting associated with applications to RNA, DNA and protein analysis, manipulation, characterization and radioactivity handling. I have guided research staff with various biochemical and molecular biology approaches in addition to spectroscopic applications and other advanced biophysical tools. I have provided course on analytical biochemical separation, bioinformatics of gene/protein analysis and structure function relationship of retinyledene binding receptors.
Currently we are working to explore the structure of unresolved motifs of microbial rhodopsin [in PCC 7120] and its cognate transducer using NMR.
